UFC 255 showcases amazing bouts for the men’s and women’s flyweight division. Starting with the men, Champion Deiveson Figueiredo took on Alex Perez, who is ranked number four. Figueiredo is the favorite in this bout due to finishing Joseph Benavidez in two fights with ease. I believe Figueiredo has more of a chance of winning by a knockout or submission, while Perez can win if it goes to decision. Figueiredo is also the biggest star among the flyweights, which is not saying much because there have been many instances of the division being cut due to lack of stars and competition, especially after Henry Cejudo left. I believe that is why this is a worthy pay per view bout because the UFC is trying to bring more recognition to the men’s flyweight division. Also, there is another men’s flyweight bout on the card with Brandon Moreno vs. Brandon Royval with the winner potentially being next in line for a title shot.

As of the women’s flyweight division, Valentina Shevchenko should be headlining the pay per view but due to her being the favorite by a landslide of -1400 odds. Shevchenko is so spectacular and levels ahead of her competition. With that being said, anything is possible, and Jennifer Maia can pull off an upset with all the doubters motivating her to come out on top. Also, another important flyweight bout with Cynthia Calvillo vs. Katlyn Chookagian. This fight will put the winner as a potential title contender for the near future. The other flyweight bout is Antonina Shevchenko vs. Ariane Lipski which will be their first time on a UFC Pay per view card. UFC 255 is doing a good job with bringing attention to the men’s and women’s flyweight division. Hopefully these spotlights will provide opportunities for future spots for the up incoming division.
