A BANTAMWEIGHT COLLISION

A big fight in the UFC bantamweight division is taking place this weekend between Rob Font who is ranked #5 and Marlon Vera who is ranked #8. This fight is very important for the trajectory of both fighters. Font is coming off a loss and to stay in the top 5 he needs to win. Vera finally has a chance to crack into the top 5 and get closer to fight for the title. Both fighters know a win this Saturday will bring them closer to a titled shot. This fight is going to be a striker’s delight, both fighters are amazing strikers and probably will not try and grapple one bit. Font has a very impressive jab that tends to slow down his opponents. I am assuming that’s going to be one of his key weapons he uses in this fight. The jab will be able to stop Vera from closing the distance. Font also uses his Jab to set up his combinations as well with punches to body or his uppercuts.

Vera is going to be looking for his front kicks up the middle that he tends to throw to the body and the head of his opponent, he’s been very successful with them in the past. He’s also very good at throwing knees and elbows while he’s in a clinch position or when he’s closing the distance between him and his opponent. Vera is very allusive and throws all types of kicks from teep kicks, calve kicks, sidekicks and I believe that’s gonna be his main weapon against Font.

Both fighters have multiple submissions on their records but I don’t think they will be grappling, just a stand up war. Font and Vera are both striking dominant but they have different tools. Font has the better traditional boxing while Vera has the better kickboxing/ Muay Thai style. One thing that you have to take into consideration is that this is Marlon Vera’s first 5 round fight while Font has gone the distance twice in 5 round fights. Who’s cardio is going to stand up better because I believe this fight is going to be a war that goes into all five rounds because neither individual has been KO/TKO. Vera has never been finished by submission either so I do not know if Font is going to try and drag this fight out to the later rounds. This fight is going to be very exciting. This fight is going to be a big fight in the bantamweight division because if one of these individuals get a spectacular win this Saturday they might be able to skip the line and automatically fight the champion.
